About:
The Winter Summit Weekend Program through Waypoint Adventure brings New England’s coldest weather from bearable to beautiful. The White Mountains of NH provide stunning views, peace, and solace without the hiker traffic of peak season. Get suited up in the proper gear (all provided) and join the team for two overnights at the base and bunkhouse, and ascend together, summiting one of New England’s finest peaks – coming back to a fireplace and dinner in the evening. Learn essential lessons about layering, safe winter travel, communication, and perseverance all while part of a supportive group.
Participation on this trip includes lodging, transportation, all meals, equipment, guided hike, and custom designed itinerary around group goals. Due to the added costs incurred, we are asking volunteers to consider a $50 donation to help cover the cost of this trip. If you would like to donate, you can do so at this link: https://waypointadventure-bloom.kindful.com/
General Itinerary:
Friday
- Arrive at Waypoint's office (453 Concord Avenue, Lexington MA 02421) at 5PM on Friday, 1/31
- Drive to AMC's Highland Center in Crawford Notch, NH (Waypoint will provide transportation)
Note: The Highland Center is wheelchair accessible.
Saturday
- Summit Mt. Willard *
- Fun and games at the lodge!
Sunday
- Pack up and drive back to Waypoint
- Return by 2PM on Sunday, 2/2
* Please note that this hike may require a higher level of challenge than a typical Waypoint hike. We start at the Highland Center, then hike up Mt. Willard and back down to the Highland Center for a total of 3.2 miles. We will gain around 900 feet of elevation. We have a limited number of sit skis or off-road wheelchairs that can be provided for accessibility. We will take it SLOW, and work as a team to ensure everyone's success and safety.
Volunteers may be asked to assist in pushing/ pulling participants in sit skis, help with preparation of gear and getting participants ready, and assisting in programmatic elements.
If you are interested in joining us for Saturday's hike only, we'd love to have your help! We'll plan to leave from the Highland Center around 10AM, enjoy lunch on the summit, and return to the Highland Center around 3PM. If you have further questions on what to expect or joining for the day hike only, please reach out to Oscar ([email protected]).
While this adventure provides an added level of challenge, it is one of our very favorites, and one we keep returning to year after year. See this blog post for one participant's experience and photos from last year!
