Cycling Demo Volunteer – Accessible Adventures at Deer Island

Waypoint Adventure is bringing the bike trailer to Accessible Adventures: A Fun Day at Deer Island — a free waterfront community event hosted by the Winthrop Commission on Disabilities — and we need volunteers to help us put on a cycling demo!

We'll have tandems, recumbents, and recumbent tandems on the accessible path at Deer Island, and your job is simple: captain a bike with an attendee and give them a great ride. Participants may have a physical or intellectual disability, or they may just be curious — either way, you'll be helping people experience bikes they've never tried before, on a beautiful path along the water.

Waypoint staff will get you familiar with the bikes before the event begins. Cycling experience is helpful but what really matters is enthusiasm and a good attitude.

A few things to know before signing up:

• Deer Island is an MWRA facility with a security checkpoint. Bring a valid photo ID.
• Wear closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather — you'll be active and outdoors.
• Water will be available on-site.
