Join us as a volunteer at one of our favorite spots to run a cycling program- the Nashua River Rail Trail.
As a volunteer, you’ll play a key role in creating a safe, connected, and successful experience. This program is all about teamwork, communication, and meeting each participant where they are.
Volunteers will primarily serve as Captains on tandem bikes—steering, braking, and helping guide the ride—while riding alongside participants (Stokers). You’ll be paired thoughtfully based on experience and comfort level, and staff will be there to support you throughout the program.
We use a range of adaptive cycling equipment, including upright tandems, recumbent bikes, and side-by-side options. Some bikes have two wheels, while others have three for additional stability. You don’t need prior experience with all of these setups—just a willingness to learn, communicate, and work as a team.
Expect a steady, manageable pace, plenty of breaks, and a strong emphasis on group cohesion over speed or distance. Your role is not just to ride, but to help create an environment where participants feel supported, confident, and included.
If you’re unsure about your role or what to expect, we’re happy to talk it through ahead of time.
