Description

Join us for an afternoon paddle along the beautiful Mystic River in collaboration with the Mystic River Watershed Association

Explore the nature and wildlife of the watershed in your own community up close. This is a fully accessible tandem kayaking program, meaning participants benefit from the wide array of adaptive kayaking equipment and instruction designed to meet individual needs. Our highly trained staff and volunteers will instruct, support, and encourage you as you learn new skills or further develop your existing ones, all while enjoying the birds, turtles, and scenic views of the Mystic River alongside an inclusive community.

We will meet at the boathouse at 1:00pm, provide on-shore boat fitting and group instruction, then paddle as a group along the river for 1-1.5 hours. We will wrap up on-shore by 3:30pm!

Instructors: Eileen (617) 544-7116

Location/Directions: Blessing of the Bay Boathouse: 32 Shore Drive, Somerville MA 02145

Parking Info: Some Blessing of the Bay boat house parking is available. When the parking lot is full there is 2 hour street parking located along Shore Drive, across from the boathouse. Click here for more information on directions and parking!

Look for green Waypoint signs and give us a call if you need further instructions.

Public Transit Info: This location is MBTA accessible- it is about a 15 minute walk from the Assembly Station T Stop on the Orange Line. Walking directions from Assembly Station to the boathouse: Exit the station and make a right on Great River Road. Make a left at the Winter Hill Yacht Club. Follow the river walk past Sylvester Baxter Park towards the Fellsway. Enter the boardwalk on your right under the Fellsway. You will then be on Shore Drive. Make a right on Shore Drive and continue on the river walk to the boat house.

Conditions: We will be paddling on the Mystic River, which is a relatively protected, flat, calm body of water. The water can be choppy with minor waves and some boat traffic such as rowers and small sailboats. You'll need to be able to stay to the side and follow steering directions mostly independently or with assistance of your tandem kayak boat partner!

Bathrooms: There will be an accessible porta potty at the boat launch.
