Description: Welcome to the Waypoint Adventure Club (WAC) Tandem Cycling Program. The mission of the WAC is to make the outdoors a more diverse place – where the trails and paths are frequented by people that represent the true diversity of our world. You get to adventure alongside people who love the fresh air, trees, pine needles, brooks and rivers, lakes, bridges, mud, and community – and are rejuvenated by it!
Often the lines between people with and without disabilities are indistinguishable as we enjoy biking as a community, as such the registration fee for everyone is $20, it takes a lot to make these programs succeed – we thank you for your contribution! The group will work together to cycle the back roads and bike paths of Massachusetts. Participants are encouraged to bring lunch and socialize on the trail and during breaks. We have a variety of bikes that offer different amounts of support. We will match up two riders (a Captain and a Stoker) The Captain will be the leader and the Stoker is the other half of the team, who works with the Captain to enjoy the adventure of tandem cycling. Some of our bikes are more traditional upright bicycles that require teamwork and balance. We also have other models that are side by side or recumbent, low to the ground, tandems. Some have two wheels and require more balance while others are quite sturdy and more supportive with three wheels and supportive seats. If you’d like to give small group tandem cycling a try, give us a call - we’d love to try to find a bike that might work for you. The experience will be about finding the right amount of support in a bike and teammate and working together as a group. The adventure will go from there.
*Note: If a PCA is essential to your participation in the program, please register the PCA as either a stoker or a captain based on the person's cycling experience. Email Michelle at [email protected] for a coupon code to register the PCA for free.
